Compassionate, evidence-based paediatric neurology and EEG services delivered by experienced consultant neurologists — helping children and families across Perth WA and regional areas.
Non-invasive brain activity monitoring for children
An EEG (electroencephalogram) records the electrical activity of your child's brain using small electrodes placed on the scalp. It is safe, painless, and takes 60–90 minutes.
EEG may be indicated for:
Suspected seizures or seizure-like episodes
Evaluation of paroxysmal movements
Fainting and collapse episodes
Migraine and headache assessment
Monitoring of epileptic patients
Diagnosing epilepsy and genetic syndromes
Wash hair the night before — no oil, gel, or hairspray. Avoid caffeine on the day. Follow any instructions about food or keeping your child awake. If your child takes medicines, let us know in advance.
Yes. EEG has been used for decades and is considered very safe. Electrodes only record brain activity — they do not send any electric current into the body. There is no risk of electric shock.
Electrodes are removed and the glue is washed off. Your child can return to normal activities immediately. A neurologist will review the results and communicate findings with your healthcare provider. Schedule a follow-up to discuss results.
